About the dojo
One dojo, two arts.
Indio Karate is the Tang Soo Do program of the Salton Street dojo — the same mat, the same family, a different tradition.
The school
A neighborhood dojo, not a franchise.
Our dojo opened in 2023 on Salton Street in Indio and trains students from across the Coachella Valley — Indio, Coachella, La Quinta, and Palm Desert. Judo runs on Fridays and Saturdays; Tang Soo Do karate runs Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday evenings.
The karate program is led by Mundo Chavez, a 5th Dan in Tang Soo Do with decades of martial arts experience. Classes emphasize proper technique, physical conditioning, and the mental discipline that carries students beyond the mat.
Interested in grappling instead? Indio Judo is our judo program at the same address.

Tradition
The midnight-blue belt.
In Tang Soo Do, the highest rank is not black — it is midnight blue. Black symbolises an ending; midnight blue is the night sky just before dawn, because in this art mastery is treated as a beginning. Students progress through color belts by testing, and every rank is earned on the mat.
